I take the valve cover off and use the studs that hold the cover on. Make sure you use a spreader bar so you don't bend the studs. If you're going to dissemble the engine anyway, pull the rocker shaft and use a couple of the rocker bolt holes. I would be afraid to put an engine on a stand with a bell housing. It is cast and can break. Once you have the engine hanging, remove the clutch, flywheel and bell housing. Bolt the engine to your stand using the bolt holes that held your bell housing. Unless you have a really heavy engine stand, you might consider supporting the front of the engine with something. I have a heavy stand, but I have a leg that I bolt to the engine for more support while I am honing or torquing head bolts or main bearings.
