The carbs for the hydramatics are Zenith, but have a totally different calibration than those for the standard transmission (calibrated richer to compensate for the fluid coupling losses in the transmission). These carbs also have an automatic choke, so fairly easy to spot (if one were ever to find one).
How easy are they to find??? We have had about 5 times as many Duesenberg carburetors in the last 40 years as we have had G.M.C. hydramatics!
Opinion - probably the best replacement (assuming one has less than the patience of Job and the financing of Donald Trump) is to use one of the aftermarket Zenith BX series carbs (correct venturi for the 248 is 1 7/32 inch) with the electric automatic choke.
Jon. Good carburetion is fuelish hot airThe most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify. If you truly believe "one size fits all," try walking a mile in your spouse's shoes! The Carburetor Shop | | |
