I'm not sure if the '54 is 12 v or 6 v, and there is a difference between starters-
If the '54 starter is 12 v it won't work so good on the 6 v of juice in your '48.
The 6 volt starters (and flywheels) have less teeth than a factory 12v starter and flywheel.
The bellhousings should be the same so the newer starter should bolt right up, 6 or 12.
Compare the number of teeth on the new starter to the old starter to be sure.
