If you are talking about the header piece that the doors close onto, that piece is still around in junk yards, especially in California. I replaced a section of my roof a couple of years ago with a piece I found in a junk yard.
Pictures might help identify the piece you are talking about. Place an ad in the swap meet section, there might be a few guys that have an old panel shell for parts.
