What condition are the spark plug wires in? I had one that would idle fine, run okay under light load, but would spit, sputter and everything else and decided for grins and giggles to replace the plug wires. Ran ike a champ after that.

Check the dwell on those points to see if the dwell is good at idle only to go bad as the engine speed goes up. The dwell will tell you alot. Make sure that during all the testing that your points didn't get burnt.

Sounds ignition related to me. If you have another distributor available I would try it.

Only other thing I can think of has been covered by you trying a different carb and having the same results.
