The 6 volt starters pull a lot of amps. As you can tell from the replies above there are several things that can cause the starter to crank slow. First you need to realize that unless you put 12 volts to the starter it will always turn slower than a 12 volt starter. Second, 0 or 1 gage battery cables are a necessity. Your negative battery cable and the starter must be well grounded. Check the CCA of your battery and load test your battery. If all of that is as it should be and it still won't turn over your starter may need to be rebuilt. Good luck.
