I had a car that I removed the carb heat riser to that would ice up every fall and spring in Wisconsin. It would get to the point where the car ran like crap. Pulled over, the engine heat would rise, then I could drive for another 30-40 miles. While taking a leak on the carb may have helped, the smell of warm urine coming thru the vents would not be a good thing.
Eventually I quit driving the car in weather colder than 50.
