I like to attach a chain from water pump area across the motor, back to manifold bolt. Do not just wrap a chain around, the motor will slip and fall on your best foot/leg etc. Also there are adjustable beams sold by maybe Harbor Freight or local auto parts, that allow you to adjust the weight as you lift, giving you the angle you want at the time. Just be careful and try to get a helper. Take off as much stuff as you can from the motor and the truck, ie. radiator, hood etc. will make it much easier and get a place ready to drop the thing vs messing around with the motor on the hoist.
Also put the motor at TDC then you can pull the distrib. and other stuff that will get pulled anyway.
