not much help w/ the backing plate end, but...
i looked at houston's link and am doing about the same. he has done a great job w/ his project. i wish i was that far along. i have installed a 77 12 bolt rear end and the E-cables fit my 3100 frame. I cut the cable to fit the threaded crossbar attachment. i had to make an attachment on my lathe to hold the free end of the E-cable housing to the 3100 frame 'pinch bolt abutment' and put a new dust boot on. the E-cable housing fits right in. I cut the stock 77 E-cable end off and fit it to the new swag. the swag is a grade 8, 5/16'' long bolt threaded long to fit the cross arm clevis. a hole is drilled in the end to accept the Ebrake's cable then crimped to the threaded swag.
