Dan(glasman),there are quite a number of modern vehicles now have heated front windshields.(They have very,very fine elements.)
A lot of European F*rds,VWs and many others now use them.
They also make aftermarket ones for older vehicles.But not,as far as I'm aware for 56 Chevys.....
The '56 windshield is a relatively large and complicated shape and I'd bet my bottom dollar there is no other heated one would be even close to the originals shape.
Even then they cannot be cut down or else you break the elements.Kind of defeats the purpose!IMO smile
