I'll throw in a word of caution about K&N's, and other gauze-type filters: they flow easier than paper elements because they have bigger "holes". To make sure they catch the dirt, they MUST be maintained...cleaned and re-oiled...regularly.
I've been running K&N's on my old Kawasaki motorcycle for some years now, and they're super. Once they get dirty and dry out, however, they let stuff through.
On my old truck, I wanted a larger filter than what is normally seen on 1-bbls. After the stupid plastic adapter squished, I made an aluminum one. Now I can run a 14" X 3" K&N, or any other 4-bbl air cleaner on my 1-bbl. Talk about breathing easier!
