Just to retouch on this, there's nothing wrong at all with using a dry element filter, they're cheaper, easy to maintain, and do a very good job. Howver, if you have an oddball size filter, as mentioned in the original post, something like a K&N may be the better way to go. Since the K&N can be washed and reused, it takes out the need to special order an odd size or odd application filter every time it needs serviced. Think of it as being like the original oil bath air cleaners.
That's the reason I run them.
