The rubber deteriorates with age and exposure to oil. The problem is that no one makes them, good used ones are darned hard to find, and getting one rebuilt isn't cheap. http://www.damperdoctor.com/Merchan...&Store_Code=DD&Category_Code=HAR Most are running their old damper on stock engines. For a performance engine, a new or rebuilt damper is needed. One option there is to take a fluid damper for a SBC and adapt drive pulleys to it.
