Alfie - Stuart is correct, the reg should be numbered,if you've got the larger rectangular regulator labeled as you say sounds like you have a reg for a generator system - I put a freebie alternator with ext reg on my 58,
looks like so, no idiot lite, don't recall any resistor or resistance wire, been working fine for ages
