If you are painting a solid color, 400 grit is fine, if it's metallic paint, you really need to sand with 600.

180 grit is good for bare metal. You primer will fill the 180 scratches a lot easier than 60 grit.

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. Not gonna stop now.
