Here's what I found last night at the garage...
There is only ONE casting number on the block: (3769716) near that number there IS a "GM" with a smaller either "18" or "1B" below the GM. That's it there are no other numbers/letters near the starter.
The stamped number is on the plate: (F0301BE)
That's it. No other numbers. Based on what I've been able to gleen from the various sources and help here I'm pretty convinced it's a 1960 235 from an 1100 series vehicle.
Based on that, we went ahead and adjusted the lifters as hydraulics and she's running better now.
