Assuming the carb is correct for the engine, initial idle mixture screw adjustment would be from 3/4 turn to 1 1/2 turns from lightly seated.
We also set them at an initial of 1 turn.
Would suggest also taking a good look at the ignition setup (points, plugs, condenser, cap, rotor, WIRES, coil).
