Pull the spark plugs and put a torque wrench on the crankshaft damper bolt. Any turning torque over about 100 ft/lb with the plugs out indicates something inside is too tight: rod bearings, main bearings, piston/ring fit etc. If it turns over OK by hand, find the starter or battery/cable problem. Ditto on making it start immediately- - - -you can scuff a new cam by extended cranking. Once it starts, go to 2,000 RPM for 20 minutes before doing much idling.
