Sounds like you need to insure there is spark to the Distributor first.
-Get a test light
-get a good ground, touch it to the wire coming from to the starter to insure you have a good connetion.
-Turn on the Ignition
-Check to see if there is power to the coil
- If no power, you will have to hot wire the ignition switch.
If you have power, the problem is most likely in the distributor.
- With the cap off crank the engine and see if there is spark at the point,
- if you have spark at the points, then you have wire problems or timing problems.
