I'm always so happy to read or hear that other guys do the same things that I do! This sounds like one of the deals I get myself into.
I would do what I always do - put it back together and see if it works or not. If it does - good! If it doesn't, I go to the wrecking yard or the swap meet and get a used one and use the parts I need out to fix my problem. Sure, it holds up progress, but at least you got some choices!
