the way i did it was actually pretty easy.
like i said, after i pressure cleaned all the mildew off, i waited a week for it to dry.
took a sanding block and sanded the wood, taped it up, stained it one day, the the following day i started applying 2 coats per day, one in the morning and one in the late afternoon.
you cant tell by my pics, but i should have sanded the wood a little more, since i have a slightly rough finish, and i really need to sand it maybe one more time, then add another few coats of clear. but it was a lot easier than removing all the strips and wood, and really came out pretty good.
