Most spindles I've seen that are this old do have a bit of a lip, usually where the inner bearing race rides. I think its just 'pounded out' from too many miles & bumps in the road. As long as there's no sign of the race spinning out, like bluing color or galling metal transfer, I run them. Just use good preventive maint. practice like regular inspections & re-greasing.
