tempered glass 'made' to my templates. I did
not say I cut them,
It starts life as standard single layer plate and is then 'toughened' in a heating process.
Why is tempered glass a NO NO?
Several million vehicles can't be wrong.
Manufacturers have been using it for decades now.
The reason it
was used was,if in an accident you were (God forbid) incapacitated and the Rescue Services were unable to open the door due to damage,the window could be shattered into 'relatively' harmless (small) pieces to administer first aid quickly.
Try that with laminated side glass....
My front windshields are 6.4mm
laminated glass (sorry 'bout the Euro metric talk!)
6.4mm Laminated glass on forward facing windshields is a Legal requirement over here......
Dale...the 5mm tempered glass
was tight in my 50s frames, but I didn't use glass setting tape but instead a small section 'U' shaped rubber seal that I found at work and were hammered into the frames with glass cleaner as lube and a rubber mallet.
Again...try that with laminated.
O.K so it's not original,but neither is my engine,supension and so on....I think it looks good and I'm happy with it.
Whether you use tempered or laminated side glass is
your choice.Either is alright.
Tempered was
my preference for the reasons I have already stated.
Incidentally a
4mm (1/4" approx.)tempered door glass can easily support my weight and I'm 6'4" and 200lbs+ !
