laminated safety glass is for windshields and cut to fit replacement side glass - tempered safety glass is used in all vehicle OEM flat/side glass as Jock sez .... plate glass of any type is architectural glass, used in buildings

laminated glass is used for windshields cuz when broken it stays in one piece, no sharp shards - tempered is used for the flat glass cuz cheaper and it shatters into fingernail size pieces when broken, no sharp shards, protecting the occupants [not helping the rescue boys] .... the 'fragile edge' of tempered glass is why GM used metal frames on the side glass for a time - but you won't find the average auto glass shop in N America to temper glass on demand, if they can't buy the piece factory made for the application
