Easy part with wires is checking proper order. Follow the wire from the plug in the front-most cylinder to the distributor cap. Then follow the wires, in clockwise order, around the cap. Should match the firing order (molded into the side of the intake manifold, driver's side, by-the-way:) 1-5-3-6-2-4. 1 is the front, 6 is the Rear.

Harder part is seeing if the distributor is timed properly to fire #1 cylinder at the proper time. If you are comfortable determing where Top Dead Center is, this part isn't too hard, either. If NOT, well, post again.
