If it is doing the knocking during acceleration it sounds like timing problems. Maybe the distributor has turned and the engine is knocking due to pre-ignition. If it is just knocking all the time, get a mechanics stethescope and try to locate the loudest sound to determine where the noise is coming from. From your note it sounds like this is happening when you give it gas under a load. Timing probably.
