I owned a 1 1/2 ton and have a 1/2 ton pickup. These are that way because the gas tank was sitting flat under the seat...in order to gas it up you opened the passenger side door and raise that side of the seat to fill up.
Most folks at shows want to know why I split it. I did not even know this until I bought the pickup. My tank is still under the seat but I do plan to move it to under the bed maybe in the next year.
