If the Carter carbs are AFB design, then I think they're pretty good. I'm gonna run a 625 cfm Carter on my 292. I got it real cheap (it was a vendor return that came back cuz the choke wire was off.)
I run Edelbrock AFB carbs on almost all of my cars with "twin 4s" because I like the "set 'em and forget 'em" feature. That is, they don't seem to require the constand maintenance that some other carb brands do.
All in all, I really like 'em.
