For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 93 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 93 | Has any body on here ever had a 47 or year close 2-ton rear end apart? Mine is making some funny noises when I start it and drive it about the first 1/2 mile. After that it quits. It's making a pinging sound particularly when I back off the accelerator. Last time I drove it around the block I hit a pot hole about 15mph and the what ever pinged grabbed so bad the truck almost stopped. I think it has something to do with the input shaft of the rear end. I think the yoke might be loose on it which is causing it to ride back and bind then it pops loose. What I'm concerned with is if the pinion shaft and gear on it are one piece like newer models or is it possible that it is a two piece shaft? IF it's two piece I'll probably have to tear the rear end And if that's the case I'd like to know if their is a crush bushing in there like new chevy rear ends, and if so where I can get it. Any ideas? | | |
