Well, mikestem it seems this engine--the 206, had springs just above the lifter that returns the lifter to the downward position. They were right above the lifter and went up the pushrod a couple inches . I do have the holddown brackets in a parts can from an engine i picked up but none on the engine I took apart. And no springs, I thought I saw a reference to some people not generaly using them after a rebuild but couldn't access the thread. Like you say the usual springs on the rocker would push back but the gap might shift to between the lifter and cam--these springs would preventthat, that's my guess anyway.i think the GM diesels have these as well like the 453. I would still like to know the ins and outs on this for sure.
