Sort of...what you want to do put the mill in the lowest gear, meaning the small groove on the motor sheave and the large groove in the spindle sheave. This gives you the most torque, and because the VFD has the ability to run up to at least 200 HZ, you can get tons of top end..more than you would ever need.

When I say this, I don't mean to put the mill in "back gear" which is of course its lowest range. The low ratio I speak of is achieved with the sheaves and drive belt. Does this make sense.
