Stuart, I'm glad you replied. I always read your advise and respect your knowledge.
I hadn't thought of a variable speed drive. The thing that scared me away from the static ph conv. was the fact that I want to be able to reverse quickly, and I wasn't sure that I would be happy with the static converters' ability to do this.
I'm assuming that there is no need to go overkill with a drive, since a separate drive is required for each machine tool.
