We used to drive Dad's '46 1 ton pickup at LEAST 45 to 50 mph all the time. In fact I think it was usually faster than that. (actually, we whaled the crap out of it!!! )
The old 216 eventually did bite the dust, and was replaced with a later 235.
Actually, though, 45-50 was a good comfortable speed for it.
