Yeah, be sure to check the code and find out what it means. A lot of shops do this for free.

On my '89 Suburban I had the HEI distrubutor rebuilt. They have some inherent problems that tend to show up after 100k miles or so that will make it run really bad. If you assess the whole unit, there may be more to fix than just the obvious problem. I would at least take it to a Mr. Goodwrench and get an estimate and explanation.
