Just went thru this with my 93 Chevy 350 engine; Service engine soon" lite. It was throwing a code 13 on the scan tool. Thats 02 sensor. The sensor was reading lean. So I changed the o2 sensor and fuel filter while I was at it. Everything fine now. The fuel filter I couldn't blow thru so it was probably the filter putting it into a lean condition. Try that as well as your dist cap issue. Good luck let us know.
