Yes, between each leaf. Shop around, Speedway Motors has some with channels on each side to hold it in place. I am sure others do to. With the springs apart, grind each end of each leaf off so the edges are rounded over, this helps them slide with out digging in. Go to your local spring shop or NAPA and get new center bolts, they are only a few dollars each, don't try to save the old ones. Each spring pack is compressed a little with the center bolt so don't stand right over it when you cut the head off. They won't fly across the room or anything like that, but they could hurt you if you are right down on them.
