Turn engine over with key on. You should get a blue spark from the wire to ground about 1/4 in. If not remove dist. cap & with key on put a screwdriver on points & each time points are open & closed or grounded you should get a little spark at the points & a spark at the coil wire. Check the connection at the points. If you don,t get the wire on straight it can short to the breaker plate. If the point gap is set right the dwell will be real close to right.
