I have a '54 4100(1-1/2 ton) in which i'm putting a '62 235 in. I just recently read that it is recommended that a water pump adapter that uses the earlier '41-54 water pump is better than either buying the shortened '55-62 water pump or shortening the same pump shaft yourself. One reason is that it better aligns the water pump to the center of the radiator for better cooling. Another reason is that the earlier pump already has the correct pulley diameter for the correct ratio to the harmonic balancer pulley(if the one from the original is used). The third reason is that if you need a new water pump, then you can just simply bolt the new one on instead of modifying another one again. What do you fellow stovebolters think?
