For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 66 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 66 | I have a '54 4100(1-1/2 ton) in which i'm putting a '62 235 in. I just recently read that it is recommended that a water pump adapter that uses the earlier '41-54 water pump is better than either buying the shortened '55-62 water pump or shortening the same pump shaft yourself. One reason is that it better aligns the water pump to the center of the radiator for better cooling. Another reason is that the earlier pump already has the correct pulley diameter for the correct ratio to the harmonic balancer pulley(if the one from the original is used). The third reason is that if you need a new water pump, then you can just simply bolt the new one on instead of modifying another one again. What do you fellow stovebolters think? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 360 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 360 | that is it in a nutshell. just bought one for my 261 that is going in a 46 1/2 ton. got it from pre68dave. have had good communication w/ him prior to purchase. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1955...torsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesyou will need 2 gasket kits 1- 54 kit pump to adapter and 1-62 kit adapter to block. was also cautioned to make sure when you drill block for adapter DONOT GO MORE THAN INSTRUCTED. will hit passages in block. was suggested to use a self centering bit, has small point at tip of bit, make sure you take the small point into account when measuring the drill depth

I did add a fan shroud that reduced the temp in half. Amazing difference the fan shroud makes. Noticable. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 355 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 355 | worse came to worse you could take a page from the dirt track racers or drag racers and run a remote electric water pump
