A recirculator header (non Fresh Air) did not originally have a flow-control valve (does it need one or not, that's a matter of opinion).
As for the heater blower switch, it had a dark brown body and a thumb lever. The lever might have been white/ivory with black letters, or it might have been dark with white letters (different years might have had different levers).
