Never did body work , but I am an electrician 1/2 the voltage 2x the amps (current) 2x the voltage 1/2 the amps so a motor at 6 volts thats drawing 2 amps ,the same HP motor at 12 volts would draw 1 amp the only reson that You should not use a 6 volt switch at 12 volts is when the switch is turned off the contacts in the swich may not open up enough to kill the arch because of the current going to what ever it is running.
