you should put the valve on the crankcase, not the valve cover - have to make sure the engine can draw air from somewhere to compensate for the vacuum draw in the intake or you create a vacuum in the crankcase that'll cause problems - the early simple pcv setup used a vented cap on the valve cover, like on a 283, and the valve is sized for the engine, so careful which one you use
