The 4 speed was optional on 1/2 tons and is a real beast (used on heavy trucks). You wouldn't use 1st any way and 2, 3, and 4 are very close in ratio to 1, 2, and 3. For street use the 4 speed is an overkill. 4 speed is also non syncro.
