Buying a brand new car is probably the 1# biggest way to waste your money. My wife had that "had to be new" attitude when I married her. When the time came to buy a car, I told her that I was going to buy her a 1 year old car with 15,000 miles on it and save 40% over the cost of buying the same car new. She said no way. So I told her fine, once you have enough money to buy your own car, you can do whatever you want. I'm not paying 1 cent of my money on a brand new car.
We bought that 1 year old car and have had it for almost 4 years now.
I added up a few of my receipts once and it was a real shocker.
However, when you compare the initial cost of my truck, and the money I've put into it over the past couple years, to what I paid for my wife's (had to be new) car...I think I've come out ahead. Well, I guess not so much since I'm paying for both of them, but you get the point.
