changing the speedo drive gear is not that hard. you don't have to pull the tranny, Just open the u-joint and pull the gear out the back of the tranny.
whoever worked on mine last put the gear back in the wrong place on the main shaft so my cable was'nt connected to anything. you can buy these gears used. If you can't find one, let me know. I have an extra.
