my old time retired mechanic says the reason my speedometer stopped working is that besides the speedogear teeth being rounded and worn, the main gear that it meshes with has come loose from the shaft. He doesn't see a crack in the gear, but he can turn it with a finger when it is in neutral. Thus his professional opinion.
does this sound right, or should I just replace the speedogear and hope it will work?
Don't really want to invest in having him yank the transmission etc., just to find out if I'm doing 38 or 45 mph.
and where does one find a 19 tooth speedogear, and possibly the other parts he needs for the bigger job?
Thanks,
Bart
