Ok... I recently purchased a 68 Chevy C20 with what he claimed had a 327 in it.... I ran the number that was stamped on the engine (V0725GF). Turns out that its either a 1955 265, a 1957 283 or a 1965 283.. My guess is that its a 1965 283 because it has side mounts and not front mounts.. Dissappointing to say the least. Regardless, I now have a 283. My question is... how can I find out if this is a 4 bolt main other than getting the casting number or popping the pan off. I guy from work who used to dirt track with 283s said that there was a boss cast in the front of the motor on 283s with 4 bolt mains. This true? If so, where is it suppose to be? Thanks for your help.
