Like Joe said... And don't forget to make sure you are parked on level ground.
If for some reason you wanted the top of the dipstick to be higher (easier to reach), NOW would be the time to make that viable. Instead of cutting the top of the tube off to fit your current dipstick, get a longer dipstick so you'll be able to 'adjust' the dipstick tube to the new dipstick. And don't forget that there's generic dipsticks you can buy that are adjustable. Pick and choose which method(s) work best for your needs.
