my 57 looks like 7½" - I'd just cut it so the same amount of dipstick sticks into the pan as it did before, which is what counts - maybe there was variation in oil pan size, and the factory one was a 'universal' size meant to be cut for the application, or maybe they just make new ones that long so ya feel inferior
