The first step is to determine exactly what you have. Chances are if the carb is original, it is some form of Rochester 2-bbl. The Rochester 2 barrel carburetor is one of the most reliable and "bulletproof" carbs that has ever been built anywhere at any price.
It may need a little TLC, or you may have other problems. Why not specify symptoms, and exactly which carburetor. Might be an easy fix.
